Decks, Fences & Retaining Walls

What we do

Decks, fences and retaining walls are the parts of a section that have to be done right the first time. Get them wrong and they move, rot or wash out. We build them to last.

  • New decks and outdoor living
  • Covered areas and pergolas
  • Fences and gates
  • Timber and concrete retaining walls
  • Drainage behind walls
  • Steps and balustrades

How it works

What to know before you start

Higher decks and taller retaining walls can need engineering and sometimes consent. We give you pointers on when that is likely to apply, so you can get it sorted before we start rather than it becoming a problem later. The consent process itself is not something we take care of.

Because we also do the earthworks and the landscaping, the work, from the dig to the finished deck and the planting around it, stays with one team.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do I need building consent for a deck or retaining wall?
Low decks and short walls often do not. Higher decks, taller walls, or walls holding up a driveway usually do. We can give you pointers, but we do not run the consent process.
Timber or concrete retaining, which is better?
Timber is cost-effective and suits most home walls. Concrete lasts longer and takes bigger loads. We recommend the right one for your site.
What is the best timber for a deck in NZ?
It depends on budget, look and upkeep. We talk you through the options for your spot before you commit.
